Niagara Falls Boat Tours

Tour: Day Tour
Pleasant excursion, good service
We were in Toronto for medical care and had a day of spare time so we booked this tour to see Niagara Falls. We were picked up at our hotel as promised, a tiny bit late but not a problem and it was acknowledged with a sincere apology. The small bus/van was already full so we sat at the back. The back seat is quite bumpy due to being the back seat over the rear wheels, but comfortable and clean. The tour was much as expected. The driver pointed out various points of interest. The winery was the first stop and this is where the payment for the tour is collected. Makes sense since at this time all passengers are aboard and the pickup schedule is not delayed by the repeated taking of payments. This isn't a tour of the winery, merely a short stop where you can taste two types of wine and maybe buy some. If you want to try the ice wine it's $2 per tasting. A bit crowded since other tours stop there as well. Washrooms here if you need. Then on to see the smallest chapel, it's a drive-by type thing. The bus stops in front of the chapel so you can see it, and then continues on, passengers do not disembark. The chapel is indeed tiny but otherwise unremarkable. Next it stops at a viewpoint where passengers disembark and can take photos. Can't see the falls yet from here, but nice view and a good spot to stretch legs. Niagara on the Lake is a longer stop, but would have been nice to have a bit longer time there. It was about 40 minutes. The main street is very crowded. If you wander off onto the side streets it's more relaxing. We found the museum a few blocks away which was very interesting but we had to leave it before seeing all since we were out of time. We were late getting back to the bus for which we felt bad, and the driver was very gracious in accepting our apology. Floral clock is mildly interesting but I could take it or leave it. Another leg stretching spot, and there are washrooms and a snack concession. From there we went to the helicopter pad where my husband had a helicopter ride which by the smile on his face he enjoyed immensely (additional fee that you pay to the heli company). We were the only ones doing this so the driver dropped off the others in Niagara falls so they wouldn't have to wait for us. He got back to collect us with near perfect timing, and then took the time to run in and collect our "certificate" even though he was a bit behind schedule, which we thought was above and beyond. We were the only ones opting for the lunch at the Sheraton Fallsview and he personally accompanied us right up to the restaurant and introduced us to the servers and made sure we were seated and knew where the pickup point and the boat ride was before he left. At this point he gave us the tickets for the Maid of the Mist. The buffet lunch was excellent and the view was fabulous. We thoroughly enjoyed this lunch. If you want an alcoholic beverage this is of course extra along with tip for the beverage server. Then we went to the boat ride which was enjoyable but crowded as expected. We took a spot on the lower deck near the back. There aren't nearly as many people here and you see everything the other folks do, just a little later and there is the smell of exhaust. We wore the blue ponchos as did all the other sheeples, but I don't think they were actually necessary and in fact were an inconvenience with the wind blowing them around. After the boat ride there is a viewing platform if you are ok with stairs, and from here you get a very good view of both sides of the falls, most enjoyable. The driver came around to the collection spot shortly before the agreed upon time and made sure he found everyone and herded them up and we left on time. We thought he did a good job in ferrying us around, explaining things and generally looking after us, more than worthy of a tip.

Tour: Evening Tour
Take the evening tour, you will see the falls by day and night (when they are lighted with colors).
One of the must sees if you are in the area of Toronto is the falls. This is not something you want to miss. There are numerous of tour operators that will get you there. We choose Airlink because the site looked professional. And we made the right choice. The guide was very friendly and accommodating. Our group was only 6 and that was nice. Take the evening tour as it will show you the falls by daylight as well as night (when they shine colored light on the falls). They offer you a dinner buffet for only 30 dollars extra. Take it as it is very good value for money.

Good Lunch, time to SHOP in N-O-T-Lake, great Tour and Guide.
I chose this company and specific Tour because it had a minimum 1 hr stop in Niagara -on- the -Lake, and based on reviews and research. Our guide Haroon was about 10 minutes behind schedule in traffic but he called to alert me 40 minutes earlier, before I left my condo accommodation to get to a designated coffee shop street corner, which was excellent communication. On our day we had a comfortable van, and Haroon was a good guide in telling us about some of the Toronto highlights as we drove through town to get to the highway. Once at Niagara it was a seamless entry into the Hornblower Cruise. I was hesitant to go on the boat and Haroon even offered to drive me up to the Skylon Tower instead, but I'm glad I didn't miss the cruise. We had some free time (about 40 minutes this day) after the cruise to walk along the parkway or browse the gift shop, before meeting at the Sheraton lobby. Haroon met us and again seamlessly took us up the elevators to the Buffet restaurant on the 34th floor which overlooks the Falls. Again - we were lucky to get a good table next to the window but even if you don't - you have excellent views. Off the restaurant is a Juliette balcony where you can go and take more pictures. The buffet was fresh and ample and had a good selection of hot food like roast beef, potatoes, salads, vegetables etc. I made the decision to book the lunch because the $30 with the tour includes tax and tip, and it was easy to just go and enjoy. (High floor views: no extra charge!) That meal comes with a coffee, but a soft drink cost me an additional $5.50 which I was informed of ahead of time. I would visit the Sheraton again anytime and highly recommend for views and fresh buffet dining. The Sheraton gift shop in the lobby is good and fair prices overall. Clothing and jewelry here too. Then Haroon took us further down the Falls for a 10 minute stop to get some close up pictures just above the Falls, on the walkway. Another 'not to be missed' view. A stop for an ice cream at a little Farmer's Market and bakery (and bathrooms). They sell (quintessentially Canadian) butter tarts here, as well as well made fresh mini apple, pumpkin and other pies. Took some back to hotel - highly recommend to pick some up. Then we had an hour in Niagara-on-the -Lake. Picturesque, charming main street full of clothing boutiques so one must power-shop! Not to be missed: **Book this tour for the hour of free time there!! Not every tour company offers this *** Then a 30 minute stop at a winery for ice wine samples before the ride back to Toronto. A good day's outing and the van was comfortable seating. Haroon was a very pleasant guide. He was PATIENT with all of his guest's questions and idiosyncrasies, amiable, knowledgeable, clear in his instructions, good sense of humour, and very approachable. Thank you Haroon for making my trip to Niagara Falls such a pleasant one!

Tour: Day Tour
My husband booked the tour about 7-10 days before hand and received a confirmation of the reservation, but we felt like we needed to call them a couple of days before the trip just to confirm our collection time as we hadn’t heard anything. On the day of the trip they were 20 mins late collecting, but they apologised for the delay and we soon got on our way. On the way to Niagara our tour guide was very chatty and knowledgeable about the areas we were passing. We were dropped off at Niagara for the Hornblower boat tour, we then re-grouped for the lunch that we’d added to the tour package. Lunch was a buffet at the Sheraton hotel, very nice and a good view. If you want to spend ages photographing the falls then opt out of the lunch part to maximise your time being able to walk around, as the boat ride is fairly quick and it goes very fast. After lunch we took a drive to the various stops on the itinerary. Our tour guide was chatty, friendly and knowledgeable, and the trip was well timed. We visited Niagara on the Lake and stopped in The Prince of Wales for a drink- which had a lovely atmosphere- leather wingbacks and an open fire. A great little find! We then went wine tasting and got back into the city around 6pm. I think the tour was good, but only a small section of the day is at the falls so if you’re not fussed about seeing all the other elements of the package (little church, floral clock, whirlpool, Niagara on the Lake, wine tasting etc) then I’d just get transport to and from the falls and spend the afternoon enjoying the view.

Truly enjoyable tour!
My wife and I did this tour this past Monday. We were surprised that our tour group included 5 more members, and we were met by Haroon, our tour guide. We traveled on our own private SUV, which was great since we could interact with the other tour members, and Haroon was a great driver. We arrived at the falls, we boarded the Hornblower for our boat tour and WOW! Words can’t express how magnificent is to experience Niagara Falls from so close! We had our lunch on the Sheraton, with a great view of the falls from above. We then proceeded to the other locations. On each one Haroon gave us plenty of time for pictures, and kept us informed of the history and importance of each area we visited. My best regards to Haroon for being such a great sport and allowing my wife to take those last minute pictures, LOL!
